Hi @Harrymetz you can mix your Sweet & Sour 1:1 with any of your other H&S flavours to use it up. What I did and it works fine.
So 1 scoop S&S 1 scoop TGC? Doesnāt that create a nondescript and confusing flavor profile!
Not for me it doesnāt. Still tastes very much of TGC. I suppose it rather depends on your taste buds though.
I added Madras, Chill and Thai Green Curry to my latest subscription to try them out.
The Good: All three really do have the flavours right. Happy to eat any of these as a quick, easy and nutritional meal. Thanks also for the freebie black lidded pot that came with it. Itās nice to have a hot-food option with Huel and I will be using it.
The Could do Better: I found the Madras to be less hot than the Chilli flavour one. I was a bit surprised that the bags were smaller than the powder, then realised that they contain half the number of āmealsā. Thatās a bit disappointing TBH. The scoops are a different shape to the V3 powder scoops, but appear to be the same volume - not sure why. I also think the pot could be improved - its made of a brittle plastic which doesnāt look like it will last long. Also Iād have prefered a lighter colour or a transparent container so I could better see the contents. This could be further improved by putting āfillā markers in it for the Huel and hot water levels - none of my mesuring jugs will clearly show me 210ml, they mark the 200 and 300 ml points only.
The bad: I think the 400 calories suggested meal size is too low. Each time Iāve had these for lunch at the suggested portion size Iāve needed to go and find something else to eat about an hour later. The portion size needs to be larger to make it a filling meal. Iāll be experimenting with 500 and 600 calorie portion sizes in future. Unfortunately that will also increase the price per meal for me.
So overall would buy again and enjoyed the flavours, but I will use these for intermittent variety rather than a regular meal due to the increased costs & need to increase portion size.
Good write up mate. The boffins are Huel do seem to pay attention to feedback and they canāt give us what we want unless we tell them!
Ok so, couple of points.
Madras: no comment, havenāt tried it, donāt like madras generally as a curryZ. Did you make sure to mix and stir up all the contents of the bag before scooping it in? The contents do settle with the others so presumably the same with this, might explain lack of spices? Madras should be
The pot things: I bought an extra one but Iāve been using them for yonks and both hand washed and dishwasher them, theyāre lasting fine, wouldnāt worry about that. There is a line on the inside of the pot which is the water fill level. After stirring for the chili, before stirring for the TGC in my experience.
Scoops: were you using the old cylinder scoops orā¦? Iāve got the semi cone shape thingies with a flat bottom on them and had them the whole time Iāve been using huel so unless they changed again recently I have no clue on this.
Calories: well for me it works as a light lunch, if I want more calories I usually just snaffle a bar with it rather than increase the amount of H&S.
Hope some of that is useful for you dude, welcome to the world of H&S
Did you make sure to mix and stir up all the contents of the bag before scooping it in?
Yes I did shake up both the Madras and the Chilli quite a lot before using them. Iām odd in that I usually read the instructions that come with things
The pot things: ā¦ There is a line on the inside of the pot which is the water fill level.
I canāt see that at all in mine. Again, if itās there, the black colour is hiding it from me. I did check for such a line before using it but if itās there the pot colour hides it.
Nooo donāt shake, that doesnāt work, you need to physically stir it around. Either using the scoop or a large dessert spoon or something.
Here is a pic of the inside of a pot with the line clearly showing - check we are talking about the same thing here?
The pots are made from Polypropylene which is harder and more durable than most other thermoplastics and is safe to use in temperatures up to 130-140Ā°C. Itās also naturally opaque. You can make PP semi transparent (like the shakers) but this lowers the melting point so it wouldnāt be fit for purpose)
And double the price.
Totally agree. I want to try it, but I dont want to start liking something that I know I wont use it frequently because of its price (31ā¬/kg buying 6 bags). Its more expensive than having an steak.
But aside of the price, I really like the product and the innovation behind, despite havent tried it yet.
Where the heck are you getting your steaks from? I pay about Ā£70/kg for centre cut fillet.
Edit: to be precise - * Price per kg: Ā£71.88
Which is ā¬80.68/kg
We have great meats in Spain, normal quality steaks are about 14-18 ā¬/kg and you can find them easily.
Good and great ones starts about 28-35ā¬/kg in butcheries or big/specialists supermarkets. For what I have been told in the UK you have quite a horrible food culture and pricing of certain things
That ācenter cut filletā is āSolomilloā in spanish its normally for 32ā¬/kg and a good one its at 45ā¬/kg. Its interesting to see the differences per countries
Ok when can I move to speak ? Lol.
I have a steak once a week but worth getting the best. I get mine from Scotland - usually do about 3-4 deliveries a year and include whatever my mum wants as well.
Once a year I get four venison steaks which costs me 26 mackerel when my friend drives down - didnāt happen last year so we are both distraught haha.
Iāve only been to Spain for football but thought it was fantastic and everyone was so incredibly friendly and the food was amazing!
Also discovered Spanish red wine back then, was a complete revelation as Iād always been brought up on German white or French red.
That is something it drives us crazyā¦ We have the best olive oil in the world, great wines (reds and whites and also Cavas instead of Champagnes) and a lot of different great foods but we are quite bad at selling itā¦
Spanish food makes every tourist freak out, even to spanish people that visit different provinces of spain. We are used to great food since our childhood, its very cultural. Its only comparable to Italy and certain parts of France.
Basically provide me with Rioja and good food and Iāll be your slave lol.
I honestly think -standard- Spanish restaurant food is better than standard French restaurant food.
High end, Iām a snob, same with wine really in that I always favour France. But one does not have high end every day, so if was a choice, Iād go for Spain.
Also the football is far superior. Even if Barcelona cheated us so many times!
Interesting. No line on mine
and these are the instructions that came with it - the graphic indicates that the bag should be shaken. If thatās not what weāre supposed to do maybe the Huel folks can fix that.
Tilt your pot to the side? If I look straight down mine the line isnāt visible either.
The image on those instructions isnāt good though, 100% agree, that should be someone stirring it with the scoop or something. The text does say mix thoroughly but like you, no first time user is going to think anything other than shake it up a bit.
@Dan_Huel one for you here old bean! Iāve not seen that instruction leaflet, maybe itās new, no clue, but that image is not great.
@Uitlander try doing as I suggest and stirring it all up with a big spoon before using a couple of scoops and see how you get along.
Yep, world famous for it
Hangon I just did a proper zoom in, there is a line in your cup. Itās dark and at that angle almost invisible but itās there if you look at it with a light overhead, side on.
Iām just on my phone but hereā¦ this is an enhancement of your photo.
Basically youāve got the flash at the bottom then a corona of light and then on a phone screen about an inch above that the outline of the fill level line.
It must be the same pot, the line is definitely there, squint a bit or something at look at the side of the inside of the pot. I know I canāt see it without glasses so itās not immediately obvious but itās there!
You can feel the fill line with a finger or thumb if you canāt see it.
