Launching Huel Black Edition

#scoopgate resolved and courier potatoes now familiar with what a scoop is - although, in their defence, they were probably confused as the pack contained not 1 but 3 scoops. And a shaker.

Hi all,

I’ve been having Huel for two meals a day for about 2 years now. I’ve recently taken a break from it following a job change.

I’m back on Huel again now. I have a question I’m sure my learned fellow hueligans maybe able to help with.

I love Huel and blitz it with frozen fruit so it’s like a smoothie. My issue is I feel bloated after it and sometime a little nauseous, it’s very slight. Will this black edition reduce either of these two symptoms please?

I know it’s a little hard to answer, I have ordered some today and will report back on the experience.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

honestly - as peoples reactions to Huel vary wildly, I don’t think there could be a definitive answer to that but will be interested to read how you get on.

I’ve found that mixing citrus fruit with Huel makes me really bloated but other fruit eg berries is fine.

No idea if black Edition will make a difference - it may well suit you better - with no oats, no sucralose and lower fibre you may find you have less bloating. Some people find higher protein causes bloating tho. @Phil_C is right - it’s really individual
Let us know how you get on :+1:t2:

Seems likely.

Thanks @ChristinaT & @Phil_C I’ll keep you posted. I use strawberries, mango and pineapple for the fruit.

I would suggest avoiding pineapple and see if that helps as its very acidic. I’m not sure what it is that makes the acid react with huel but that’s the only time I ever get problems is if I mix acidic fruit or even if I have orange juice on the side

HUEL BLACK EDITION CHOCOLATE…

Taste
Very delicious!
Tastes of chocolate (Woohoo Bravo! :tada: :clap:t2: )

Texture
Doesn’t mix as smoothly as v2.3 (I’ve not tried v3 yet) - seemed more grainy somehow. Not an issue for me at all - I really like the texture. I did leave it in the fridge for 6 hours. I didn’t use a mixer ball but will next time and see if that helps - it was more that it didn’t dissolve as well though rather than being a blending issue.

Improved by adding cacao?
Of course! I added raw undutched cacao powder and not the flavour boost. I’m very pleased to say the sweetness was perfection :ok_hand:t2: which I’m very happy about as I find UU v2.3 needs cacao powder plus cacao fb (not available any more) to achieve a good flavour and sweetness, but just black plus cacao was spot on.

Sweetness
As mentioned above: perfection!

Product development team… I wonder if the ‘white’ huel may become available in the future without sucralose…? ie the regular carb to protein ratio but with coconut nectar and stevia to sweeten.
My absolute ideal Huel for the future would be a chocolate huel made with raw cacao, stevia, coconut nectar and have high carbs from oats like v3, high protein like black edition but lower fat. I know fats are essential and also calorie dense but I’m fighting a losing battle with my cholesterol levels and for me a lower fat version would be beneficial. I also find high carb high protein low fat the ideal for post-workout as it provides the most effective recovery plus muscle repair and prevention against doms for me personally.
So… that’s my wish list product :grin::crossed_fingers:

Absolutely loving this Huel black though.
Black, plus v3 UU will now be the staple products in my cupboard.
What with these two perfect powders and the new bars… I could totally live on Huel forever

Oh it would be so good to have all the Huel editions free from Sucralose. I know Huel quote some studies saying Sucralose is fine etc…but I don’t believe it is generally good for gut health, and it’s terribly polluting to my environment with the flatulence.

Yes, please, remove the sucralose in the normal one

@airiartev I know this is something you’ve been asking for for a long time.
Have you tried Black Edition yet?

Havent tried and I think I wont for the moment. It doesnt appeal to me, I prefer normal UU.

The macros of the black are too “pro” for me

Have you?

@airiartev yes I know what you mean.
Personally though I’m happy with high protein but I like my oats  I’d like balanced carbs and protein and less fat, with the no sucralose formula.

And yes I’ve tried it. Scroll up!

I tried the Vanilla version out with nothing else added to it. I mixed it in a blender as I did with 2.3. I found it to be a smoother, creamier texture although noticeably thinner consistency - kind of like full fat milk as opposed to a milk shake. I dont have an issue with that as it makes it easier to drink if you’re in a hurry.

The vanilla taste was also much lighter than I expected and not too dissimilar to Original 2.3. as this was the one I normally used previously I think that the new Black vanilla will become my regular replacement and is easily pleasant enough to drink without any flavour boosts if you want to.

Yes, standard Huel is going to soon be renamed Huel Unprofessional

Tried this mornings shake with Gingerbread FB and you definitely need a little less FB in the Black Vanilla - the normal amount I used in 2.3 Original makes it slightly too sweet but still works really well.

As a top up - I made two batches this morning using Apple & Cinnamon FB - when I took the lunchtime one out of the refrigerator after 5 hours, I found the flavour had degraded quite a bit. it did a little in 2.3 also but this was more of a mellowing out/more natural taste. In the Black Edition it had done this too but also faded to the point of almost been an after taste. its fine when drunk fresh so I’m curious which one of the changes it is that is neutralising the taste.

Personally I think it is the reduction of sucralose in v3 and the omission of sucralose in Black Edition… Sucralose acts almost like a flavour enhancer I’ve found.
I much prefer the mellow flavour ie without / with minimal sucralose

I’m getting Huel Black today, and I was wondering about the Chocolate because the previous didn’t really taste like chocolate. Which was a little disappointing. Thanks for telling.
I can’t wait to try it. I love the new bars too.

Did the V3 reduced the sucralose? There is no information about that in the version release. Could send me that info?
