Mac and Cheeze

That’s good to hear. I usually associate glucose syrup with unhealthy products, that’s why I was concerned.

I’m really no Mac and cheeze specialist, this is not a thing in France but I really looked forward to trying this one.
I probably wasn’t patient enough and the pasta was not totally cooked yet. I really liked the taste despite the sweetness (is it fixed on the dried tomatoes or is it my imagination?)
The texture is OK, really creamy but I would prefer more pasta and less sauce. Obviously I understand why it is this way.
It is quite different from the other H&S as I fought to convince myself it’s healthy and finished the meal like It was just a junk appetizer and now I want more salt and fat and sugar.
But I was waiting for a new H&S that wasn’t spicy and this is the best option for me as I don’t like t&h, s&s and need to mix korma with madras to appreciate the taste but :fire:
So I am happy with this new one, and will now patiently wait for the pasta to be cooked and maybe a mushroom risotto in the unforeseeable future?
Thanks for your permanent renewal I just started huel this year and I am very happy with all the new products you launch regularly

Me too!! My delivery is apparently waiting for me at home and I can’t wait to finish work and try it. 4 hours to go! :clock8: :eyes:

Ok so for those of you who like to see what it looks like before you buy, I gotchu fam. I took many photos but please keep in mind I’m not photographer, I’m just a hungry nurse who got home from work late. I was also extremely excited for this, I’m something of a vegan mac and cheese connoisseur. As a lazy junkfood vegan of 6 years, I’ve seen it all.

So first impressions: the raw powder smelled extremely coconutty and a bit sweet which had me worried. For those who lived through Tesco and Sainsbury’s first attempts at vegan cheese you probably know what I mean. This is how the powder looks. You get an idea of the mac to powder to tomato ratio.

The smell at this point had me thinking I wasn’t going to enjoy these bags. But once I added water it went away and it smelled like…mac and cheese! I assumed it would take longer to cook than the others and thought the pasta would be crunchy, but nope. The mac went soft quickly and it didn’t take longer than any of the others. The sauce is nice and thick and honestly perfect for mac and cheese. I put it on a plate/bowl thing (honestly I don’t know what it is, it was in the cupboard when I moved in) because I was feeling fancy. It holds its shape like a nice stodge. Definitely the best texture of all h&s by a mile. For some of the others I usually have to spend some time adjusting the water and stirring and leaving it a bit longer etc etc. For this one it was one and done.

For the taste test I’m comparing it to shop bought products that take the same kind of time to make. Microwave vegan mac and cheese from Tesco/Sainsbury’s/M&S, the Wicked pot noodle style mac and cheese, Pret vegan mac and greens etc.

And for me this is :drum: :drum: :drum: :drum: :drum: …miles better than any of those! For those skeptical about the tomatoes, they make sense once you’re eating it. They just give it a but of tang but don’t make it taste tomatoey at all. It’s creamy and (vegan) cheesey. The flavour isn’t super strong but I actually prefer it that way. Most vegan mac and cheese has an aftertaste to it that’s hard to ignore after a while, and it can be difficult to eat a whole plate of it without getting put off by the aftertaste. This one didn’t have that at all which I think is why I liked it so much. I also added some applewood vegan cheese to it and microwaved it to melt it in and it was genuinely delicious.

It’s blowing my mind that this is mac and cheese that I could live off. It felt like I was eating regular junk food (which is exactly what I wanted from this).

I don’t use hot and savoury that often because it doesn’t fit into my routine very well. I usually just like to have some in the cupboard for when I’m particularly tired every so often. So I’m surprised to say I’m thinking of using this daily.

If you’re not used to vegan mac and cheese I’m not sure how it compares to non vegan stuff since it’s been a while, but maybe try to think of it as it’s own thing.

But wow, with strawberries and cream, salted caramel, and now this flavour, Huel have been doing amazing lately. Maybe I was just over hungry but I’m amazed by how good this is. I’m so glad I ordered two bags but I wish I’d got three! Either way it’s going on my regular subscription.

Sorry for the long review but as you can tell I am excited! I really hope everyone else likes it too! :cheese: :cheese:

Now that I see your review, I know for sure I didn’t stir the bag correctly or wait long enough for it to be perfect. Next prep will be better! Thanks anyway we needed a connaisseur for this.

I thought so highly of the mac and cheeze i just had to sign up to the forums to share my review!

Tastes really good. Not overpowering, subtle cheese flavour and doesn’t leave that yucky aftertaste most vegan cheeses do. Creamy but not sickly or too heavy. I really enjoyed this and this is my favourite H&S Huel so far (the only other one I like is Mexican Chilli, hated all the other flavours). Pasta cooked beautifully in just 5 mins with hot water. Very slight sweetness to it and I can just barely taste the garlic. Some black pepper is all you really need to take it up a notch. I think Huel did a really good job with this one.

I’ve been reluctant to try this because my one experience of H&S (S&S) put me off big time. I just couldn’t stomach it. However, I think I’ll bite the bullet and tag a bag of Mac & Cheese onto my next order. I really want to like it. It would be so useful.

No, not on the german-speaking EU-site. I can only add the standard amount of any product to an existing abo. Only with new orders it is possible.

Thank you so much @Herbivore, this is so so so good to hear! Especially from a vegan mac connoisseur.

I simultaneously have no idea what this means, but also know exactly what you mean

Keep those reviews coming!

@Flamme sorry for this. Just to triple check. You cannot see this in your account area?

  1. huel.com
  2. Account
  3. Account Overview
  4. Scroll down to “Try more of the Huel range”
  5. Click “Add to next delivery” on the Mac & Cheese option

To clarify, if you go to ‘Upcoming Subscriptions’ → ‘Add to Order’, you will not be able to add a single pouch of Mac & Cheeze.

I feel really really stupid. I saw this thread and scanned initially and thought it was a joke…

I renewed my subscription over weekend and added a powder bag but didn’t look elsewhere.

Truly sounded too good to be true. I may bump my next order date and stock up just to try.

It’s so gooooooood! So much so that, similarly to Happy275 above, I had to sign up to the forums just to say so (I often read the forum but haven’t commented before so haven’t needed an account).

I’ve tried all the H&S flavours and have to say that Mac and Cheeze is a level above them all in my opinion! Really tasty

I just had some delivered today. Only negative is that it says it will be ready in 5 minutes but it needs closer to 10 (which is a packaging information issue mainly and not really a problem)… apart from that I think it might become a regular flavour for me <3

IT’S TRUE! It’s really good, you will love it (if you like mac and if you like cheeze especially).

 this is amazing to hear, thanks so much for the feedback! I feel like Mac & Cheeze is in a different category to H&S - Mexican Chilli is still my favourite H&S.

Saying that, I had an entire portion of Mac & Cheeze at 10:52 this morning which I’ve never done with Mexican Chilli

Thanks Tim. I was getting in a right old state trying to work out how to add a bag to my next delivery. Just goes to show you need to keep it very, very simple.

Looking forward to trying it.

The site for my country is eu.huel.com.
From the page you show other products can be ordered in single numbers, including all the older versions of H&S, but M&C is not in there yet.

I guess you can see that there are only 6 types of H&S.

To clarify, if you go to ‘Upcoming Subscriptions’ → ‘Add to Order’, you will not be able to add a single pouch of Mac & Cheeze.

Are you sadists? This is cruel! You have no idea, how long I tried and went in circles yesterday.

Agreed that it’s almost a different category - I’m a big fan of Thai Green Curry and Mexican Chilli, but Mac and Cheeze just tastes like it’s a real treat meal. Maybe because it’s pasta!
