Do you mean with Vanilla or with unsweetened?
I mix it with a Huel branded shaker.
(Can’t believe it has taken me a whole year to come up with that joke).
I had half a teaspoon of Matcha Tea Flavour Boost with…I think 125g of New and Improved Vanilla!
I was wondering about the spices you mentioned though. Do they go with the sweetened?
I’ve tried various additions — peanut powder; protein powder; coffee; frozen cherries; frozen mango; dates; turmeric; spinach; mushroom powder (from Four Sigmatic); spirulina; pears; and pumpkin seed butter.
They all tasted good except for the spirulina, which was a dreadful combination.
Ah sorry! I had a few of our hacks in mind:
You can use either Vanilla or Unsweetened definitely for these. I think with Vanilla the flavour will be a little more pronounced just because I think the sweetness almost enhances other flavours - like salt in savoury food. Let us know what you end up mixing with!
I don’t bother mixing it …
I drink 300ml water
Then pour into my mouth 2 scoops worth of my favourite Huel powder
Then jump up and down vigorously for at least 2 minutes!
I find this mixes my huel well AND I get a mini workout at the same time
I am of course joking !!
Damn, I tried it before I read the last line.
One thing you should add to the turmeric hack is a pinch or so of black pepper, if you want to make use of its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, and you won’t taste it. The active ingredient in turmeric is curcumin, but this has naturally low levels of bioavailability. Most isn’t absorbed because it dissolves in fat rather than water. Black pepper is known to increase the bioavailability of nutrients and increases the amount of curcumin that the body can absorb and therefore use, boosting the health benefits. Coconut oil helps too and Huel already contains that.
@Tim_Huel, I find that stevia works wonders with U/U, so the hacks could work just adding 1/8t or 1/16th t of stevia (approximately equal to 1-2 T of sugar, sweetness-wise.)
I’ll arrest you and put you in handcuffs - how does that sound?
Kinky? And a few words.
Referencing the addition of turmeric to Huel to get the antioxidant etc benefits, does the powder deliver the benefits or would using fresh be better?
Turmeric powder is fine…and makes a lot less mess in your kitchen…
Coffee huel with a small handful of walnuts, and some sweeter if you have a sweet tooth = Coffee and walnut cake huel
I’m only a week or so in, and I’m enjoying each concoction more and more.
Pretty pleased with breakfast this morning:
- Bit of water
- Two handfuls of frozen tropical fruit (mango, melon, pineapple I guess)
- Two ice cubes
- Three scoops of v2.3 vanilla Huel
- Pineapple and coconut flavour boost
- Pinch of hot chilli powder
- Topped up with a bit more water.
Blitzed in the nutribullet for a minute, then add water to max line and blitz for another minute. Absolute taste sensation, and a lovely thickie texture - like an Innocent Smoothie.
Tried the Tumeric recipe with a few tweaks at lunchtime.
- Splosh of water.
- 3 scoops of v2.3 vanilla
- Half teaspoon each of ginger, cinammon
- Pinch of nutmeg
- Nearly a whole teaspoon of tumeric
- Half teaspoon hot chilli powder
- Squirt of lime juice
- A few twists of black pepper.
- Couple of ice cubes.
- Topped up to the max line with water.
Blitzed in the nutribullet for a minute or so.
Outcome - DELICIOUS. Nicely savoury, the lime juice complements the tumeric and then the chilli gives a really nice warmth at the end.
Steady on there Wendy! Totally missed this comment!
This sounds ace, got to restock the Huel cupboards!
Update - the turmeric one turned out not to agree with me at all! Tried it twice and each time it gave me a dose of the chocolate rain for some reason.
Speaking of chocolate, I liked the idea of mint chocolate, but I don’t really like the flavour boosts. So I had a go at replicating it.
3 scoops coffee Huel
3 ice cubes
2 tsp Green and Blacks cocoa
2 tsp agave nectar
1 tsp peppermint essence
Blitz in the Nutribullet as normal.
Result - like the best chocolate milkshake you’ve ever had.
